Bario is famous for its Bario Rice or known as ‘Adan’ rice by the Lun Bawang.  The planting season will be from May till June and harvesting will be from Dec to Jan.  The Kelabit traditional rice recipe is called ‘nuba laya’ or soft rice, where the steaming hot mashed rice is wrapped in ‘isip’ or ‘itip’ leaf.  ‘Nuba laya’ is to be eaten with other side dishes. Another is Lunch served in Bamboo.

DAY 01

MIRI | BA KELALAN (L / D)

Fly from Miri to Ba Kelalan. Arrival at Ba Kelalan Airtsrip around midday and proceed to Apple Lodge. Lunch will served at the Lodge and you will have this afternoon free at leisure. In the evening, we will walk around the valley and visiting some of the Longhouse folk. The ethnic here are Muruts and LunBawang. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

DAY 02 (B / L / D)

KELABIT HIGHLANDS

We have an early breakfast and then we will visit the coffee and apple plantations in the valley. Today, you will be impressed by the first hand experience into observing of how the local people skillfully making the well-known "Nuba Laya" (a type of packed food wrapped in leaves) and also "Roti Benak" (a type of local delicacies) being prepared. After Lunch, we will visit the salt spring and study of how the process of salt productions in the highlands being made. On the way back, visit the Apple Orchard and panoramic view of the valley.

DAY 03 (B / L / D)

PANORAMIC VIEW

After breakfast, take a walk through the village through paddy field and buffalo farm (laman) and enjoying the scenery until we reach the waterfall. Take a time to swim and picnic lunch will be cooked in the bamboo. After refresh, we will transfer back to Apple Lodge. Afternoon, free at leisure and you may mingle with local folk and enjoying the panoramic view of this highlands.

DAY 04 (B)

DEPARTURE

Fly to Miri and have the connecting flight to your next destination.
