The "Capital" of the Highland; remote Bario only accessible by air or torturous 4WD. Located 1500M above sea level. Mostly inhabited by Kelabit tribe and their unforced hospitality get you stuck here for a while!

DAY 1 (L / D)

MIRI | BARIO

Meet and greet at the Bario Airstrip. Upon arrival, transfer to Lodge. Check in and have a Lunch. The Kelabit Highlands is tucked in the North Eastern of Sarawak and is very close to the international border between the Kalimantan and Sarawak. Bario is located on the Kelabit Highlands, 3280 feet above the sea level. It is unofficial Capital of the Kelabit Highlands. Due to the geographical barrier, this place is a bit isolated to the rest of the world. After lunch, afternoon walk by passing the Market Center and the rice fields along the dusty road to visit the Bario Longhouse and interact with the Kelabit Community and experience the Bario Valley cool climate. Dinner will be served at the Lodge. Overnight at Lodge.

DAY 2 (B / L / D)

PA’UKAT | PA’UMUR | BATUH NARIT | SALT SPRING

Breakfast at the lodge. Then, we visit the Ulung Palang Longhouse communities, about 15-20 minutes' from Bario Center, walk behind the hill towards the junior high school. A climb up hill gives you a 360-degree view of the green valley framed by the glorious mountain range. At the bottom of the hill, walk past the school towards the Bario Asal Longhouse. Other Longhouse communities like Arur Dalan, Arur Layun and Pa Ramapuh are within comfortable walking distance. The trek to Pa Ramapuh, about 45 minutes', takes you past the Kelabit traditional burial ground, then, an hour walk past Pa Ramapuh will takes you to a waterfall. Batuh Narit which located at Pa'Umur, which about an hour from the airstrip, it is a remnant of the megalithic culture once practiced by the Kelabits Highlands. Next, we will visit natural salt springs, once, as an important economic source for the local. Now, two or three times per year, a group of people will go to this spring to process salt. Then, we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 03 (B)

DEPARTURE

After breakfast, prepare to be transferred to the Bario airstrip and fly back to Miri.
